The Product

Senior Fibroline is an app designed to help improve the quality of life of people with fibromyalgia or chronic widespread pain. Grounded in a rigorous, cognitive-behavioral approach, it provides resources to cope with the condition and teaches strategies to manage pain. Through Fibroline, users can learn to sleep better, manage anxiety, take their medication properly, regulate their mood, and improve their relationships with others, as well as reduce or eliminate pain and fatigue.

The app was distributed in two editions: a free version supported by advertising and a paid version without ads.

Features

The treatment is organized into a tabbed experience that brings together daily tracking, personal notes, educational materials, and progress visualization. Its main features include:

Daily Records

From the To Do tab, users complete their scheduled daily records across several dimensions of wellbeing, including anxiety level, mood, sleep quality, pain intensity, and fatigue level, with separate morning and night entries. Each record poses a simple question, such as "How much pain do you feel right now?", and completed records can be hidden or shown to keep the list focused on what is left to do.

Notes

A dedicated Notes tab gives users a space to write down whatever they need throughout their treatment.

Materials

The Materials tab gathers the treatment's educational content through mixed media, including text, video, and web links. It covers an introduction to the treatment and to the therapist, Dr. Rocío de la Vega, the ALGOS research group behind it, therapeutic resources such as the garden metaphor in both video and text versions, and encouragement as treatment modules are completed.

Evolution and Progress Chart

The Evolution tab keeps a timestamped history of every completed record alongside its value, and a progress chart visualizes how the tracked dimensions evolve over time, helping users see their trends across the treatment.

Cross-device Sync

User accounts sync across devices in real time, so a user can continue their treatment from any device with their data always up to date.

Profile and Notifications

From the app menu, users can manage their profile, configure notifications that remind them to complete their records, and rate the app.

My Role

I worked as a developer on Senior Fibroline, an existing Android app, contributing new features, maintaining its existing functionality, and improving its performance.

Feature Development and Maintenance

I developed new features following the MVVM pattern with Java 8 and RxJava, maintained and improved the app's existing functionality, and fixed bugs to keep it stable and reliable.

Performance Optimization

I worked on optimizing the app's performance, making it faster and more responsive.

Database Migration

I led the migration of the app's local persistence from a NoSQL database (Realm) to Room, a piece of work I carried out end to end entirely on my own.
